EU & Economic Section

We monitor and analyse developments in Germany on European Union and Economic issues affecting the United Kingdom. We also provide information about the UK to interested parties in Germany. The aim is to identify common ground, build common positions and relationships and manage differences where they arise.

Our section is headed by Pamela Major (Counsellor, EU & Economic) and is divided into five teams:

Agriculture Team, led by Craig Egner, is responsible for policy on agriculture, fisheries and food.

Economic Team, led by Steve Cook, is responsible for general economic issues, including regular reporting and analysis of trends in the German economy.

Environment Team, led by Lynn Shephard, provides information about German environmental developments and promotes UK environment policy in Germany.

EU & Internal Market Team, led by Paul Heardman, covers policy areas such as EU institutional issues, the Future of Europe debate and the Inter-Governmental Conferences, EU enlargement, Justice and Home Affairs and EU aspects of Competition, State Aid and Transport Policy.

Labour & Social Affairs Team, led by Elaine Trewartha, monitors and analyses the latest trends in the German labour markets, including unemployment, wages and training. The Team also covers reform of the health and social security systems in Germany, including pensions, as well as changes in the education system
