The Department of Health has jointly funded a programme of research on the non-auditory effects of noise with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

DEFRA is consulting on proposals to transpose and implement Directive 2002/49/EC relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise. The closing date for responses is 12 noon on Monday 16 May 2005.
