PMDU does this by:

The key features of our work are:

The Delivery Unit works in partnership with the Treasury, No.10, other parts of the Cabinet Office and stakeholder departments, to assess delivery and provide performance management for key delivery areas, and had a shared responsibility with the Treasury for the joint Public Service Agreement (PSA) target:

’Improve public services by working with departments to help them meet their PSA targets consistently with fiscal rules.‘

The unit is headed at permanent secretary level by Ian Watmore and averages 50 staff. Our structure is: 8 delivery teams each led by a senior civil servant; an analytic function; a support team; a commissioned projects and delivery knowledge team and a capability reviews team. The strategic direction, development of delivery knowledge, communications, people and performance development of the unit is led by four directors working closely with the Head of Unit and his Chief of Staff. Our staff are drawn from across the civil service, from elsewhere in the public sector and from major consultancies. The unit also draws on the expertise of a wider group of Associates with experience of successful delivery in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
