Operation Highbrow – Personal E-Mails Received
Since Op Highbrow started, the Royal Navy web team have witnessed a record number of visitors to their web pages. They have also received numerous e-mails from those rescued in Beirut, and others from individuals complementing the Royal Navy’s efforts in the Eastern Mediterranean. Some examples are:
‘May Gods grace shine upon all of our armed forces. I am a proud British Muslim that is able to smile at the sight of the Royal Navy's arrival into Lebanon bringing hope to so many desperate lives. Its so good to see the protection of the Royal Navy bringing smiles to children’s faces after they have endured such terrible ordeals . God Bless you all’.
‘I and my 16 year old son were among those who were evacuated from Beirut by Chinook yesterday to HMS Illustrious. I have been unable to find any more direct way of contacting the ship, so would you please convey our extreme gratitude to the Captain & crew for the outstanding care and courtesy extended to us by both officers & crew.
‘Thank you Royal Navy - God bless the Royal Navy and Britain. I would like to thank you all for saving me and my family from Beirut. I was in HMS Bulwark on 22 Jul 06 from Beirut to Limassol. In Beirut the Royal Navy personnel were so helpful and polite.
On HMS Bulwark, they were not only polite and helpful, but they were superb. I don't know which way to thank you most. I would like to send a letter and card as a thank you for everything. Again thank you so much for all the help I received from all of you.
God bless you all, and bless the Royal Navy’.
‘I was recently evacuated from Lebanon onboard HMS York. I would just like to say a massive thank you to every member on board. The crew was absolutely excellent. I have never seen such exceptional organisation and courtesy. Thank you, Royal Navy, for making the best out of the worst for so many of us forced to leave our homes and loved ones behind’

‘I was onboard HMS Bulwark fleeing Beirut on 22 Jul. Let me thank and congratulate you for the success you have achieved in evacuating us with such professional teams who treated every person onboard as a member of their family; from the moment you received us until the moment we landed in Cyprus . You are certainly second to none; may God protect you all’.
‘My family and I were evacuated from Lebanon on HMS Bulwark on 22 July.
Since than I have been telling everyone of the proficient, kind, helpful and affectionate approach by the Royal Navy crew lead by their Captain. Your help will not be forgotten forever and any thanks or gratitude are not enough towards you. May God bless you all and save you from any danger and keep you safe for your families. I am very proud to say I am a British citizen saved by the British Royal Navy’.
‘My 8 month old son was stuck in Lebanon. The Royal Navy allowed me to travel from Cyprus on HMS York, to transfer by helicopter to HMS Bulwark and arrive in Beirut to pick up my son and to then be evacuated with other individuals. Everyone I met was professional, concerned and helpful. The logistics behind the operation was awesome. We have our son safely back in the UK. We would like to thank everyone involved. We cannot thank the Royal Navy enough for, not just what they did to help us, but the way that they did it. Kind regards’.
