
The
Europe and World Trade Directorate aims to make the UK an
effective partner in the EU, and more widely, to develop
open, dynamic and efficient markets and so contribute to
creating a highly productive UK economy within a competitive
EU and a sustainable world trading environment.

Presidency ends
The United Kingdom held the Presidency of the Council of the
European Union from 1 July until 31 December 2005.

Presidency has now passed to Austria from 1 January 2006.
