Enterprising communities: a tax incentive for community investment -  consultation document

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This consultation document seeks views on a proposal for a new tax credit for community investment. This follows the report by the Social Investment Taskforce before the November 2000 Pre-Budget Report. The goal is to help transform our most disadvantaged communities - by making enterprise a key driver of regeneration. The aim of the tax credit would be to attract greater flows of private investment into enterprises in these communities - but to do this in a way that also helps to build skills and capacity, to promote long-term success.

The document explains:

? the case that the Government sees for taking action

? why the Government is suggesting a tax credit

? how in practice the tax credit might operate
