Next steps on Volunteering and Giving in the UK

The Government believes passionately in a strong and independent voluntary and community sector and a thriving culture of volunteering and giving.  Volunteering and giving has an effect not only on the immediate recipient but also on the volunteer or donor. It also makes a huge contribution to building sustainable communities. The Government wants now to reflect on current policies and initiate a public debate on how Government, together with the corporate and voluntary sectors, can best promote the current incentives for giving and develop new initiatives on volunteering. The discussion paper, The Next Steps on Volunteering and Giving in the UK, sets out the Government's philosophy on volunteering and giving and maps out the way towards realising the Government's vision of a giving society.

The discussion document is available below in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer you can download the software free of charge from the Adobe website.
