The Foreign & Commonwealth Office works closely with many different International organisations including: The main characteristics of the emerging international scene are uncertainty, fluidity and the way in which issues overlap. Most of the problems we face will require responses at different levels, using a variety of national and international instruments.

As the global agenda of shared concerns lengthens, more and more issues will be dealt with collectively in ways that will further challenge traditional interpretations of state sovereignty.

The UK will need and want to work with others to pursue its active policies, through a wide range of alliances and institutions. UK interests will lie in supporting an an effective system for multilateral co-operation, based in international laws, as the best way to maximise our influence in the world and solve the global problems before us.
