'The challenge for this Government today is continuing to integrate the goal of environmental modernisation into our vision of Britain.' Prime Minister - Tony Blair
Environmental issues affect us all, both at a local and global level. There are many international environmental issues that need urgent attention, such as Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Biodiversity, and Environmental Security. The FCO's Environmental Work, in co-operation with other government departments, consists in ensuring that the UK contributes to international responses in these areas to improve the global environment. The FCO works through the European Union to deliver a high quality of life for citizens across Europe and to ensure that the EU plays a leading role on global environment issues. Through its Overseas Missions the FCO can pursue dialogues with governments, non-governmental bodies, business, the media, international organisations and others. This informs the UK position, and helps to build consensus for solutions to the common problems we face.
