Promoting Sport in the Community

The Government is keen to support community amateur sports clubs (CASCs) for their myriad benefits including health, community building and crime reduction. On 30 November, the Charity Commission announced that CASCs may now apply for charitable status. The Government also launched consultation on a separate package of tax relief, administered by Inland Revenue. This consultation - "Promoting Sport in the Community" - seeks your views on the best way to support CASCs which make a positive contribution to their local communities.

Responses to the consultation are requested by 1 February 2001 and should be sent or emailed to HM Treasury.
