THE CROSS CUTTING REVIEW OF THE ROLE OF THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR IN PUBLIC SERVICE DELIVERY

There are over half a million voluntary and community groups in the UK, ranging from small community groups to large national or international organisations. An increasing number of public services is delivered by voluntary and community organisations on behalf of the Government. In 2001, income from government was £3.5bn – almost one-third of the sector’s total income.

The Government is committed to delivering world-class public services in partnership with the voluntary and community sector.  It recognises the need to create a framework in which the voluntary and community sector can flourish, and be strong and independent.
