National Statistics is the official source for authoritative accurate and relevant information on the economy and society. It brings together a vast range of statistical information overseen by the National Statistician.

The National Statistics logo is your assurance of statistics produced to the highest professional standards. The National Statistician has published the new National Statistics Code of Practice. The Code sets out the key principles and standards which official statisticians are expected to follow and uphold. The Code will be supported by thirteen Protocols that describe how those principles and standards are to be implemented in practice. The first two of these Protocols, covering Release Practices and consultation arrangements between UK Government Ministers and the National Statistician, were published with the Code. The Code and the first two protocols can be accessed via the following link to National Statistics On-line:

The Department for Work and Pensions is currently putting in place the arrangements necessary to implement the National Statistics Code of Practice and, in particular, its supporting Protocol on Release Practices. Click here to see the full DWP compliance statement.

Those NS publications which are produced by the DWP (formerly the DSS) can be found by clicking on the menu options on the left hand side of this page. These are derived from the administrative systems that deliver benefits and pensions and also from The Family Resources Survey that collects information on the characteristics of private households in Great Britain.
