DTI Digital Content and Publishing Unit

Within DTI the Digital Content and Publishing Unit has Business Relations responsibility for books, newspapers, magazines, journals, directories, business information companies, education content publishers, digital content, computer games and internet businesses.

The Unit's key function is to promote the competitiveness of these sectors through dialogue with key companies and intermediaries to ensure that government policies provide an environment for these industries to succeed. It maintains an active and well-informed dialogue with the digital content and publishing industry, underpinned by an independent understanding of key competitiveness issues, to drive up sustainable UK productivity in those sectors.

The unit also promotes the development of broadband content, contributing to the aim of the UK having the most extensive and competitive broadband market in the G7 by 2005.

We also work to maximise the opportunities for the digital content and publishing industries in EU programmes.

The Digital Content and Publishing Unit works closely with industry trade associations on a range of issues relevant to their particular sector.
