If you'd like to borrow documents for display in another institution there are some points you should be aware of:
- You must give us at least six months notice of your intention to borrow documents
- We will acknowledge the request within three weeks
- The usual period of a loan is three months
- You are responsible for all the costs incurred; we'll enclose an estimate with our acknowledgement of the loan request. Costs can include conservation treatment, making security negatives of loaned items, insurance and the cost of escorting documents to you
- Documents are only loaned for public display
- The exhibition must be static; we will not lend documents for a travelling exhibition
- The National Archives must be clearly acknowledged in any display of documents from our collection
- We have the right to refuse a loan and in the unlikely event of our requesting the return of a loaned item it must be returned immediately
Applicants for loans must meet the conditions set out on these pages and sign the accompanying loan form.
