Welcome
Introduction by Maria Eagle - Minister

As Minister for Disabled People, I know that it is often complex and time-consuming for individual disabled people and their families to find out what they most need to know.
This new site represents a step forward in helping people to find out about their civil rights and to see more clearly how useful the Internet can be as a source for information.
Please continue to let my Department have your views about this site. They do make a difference. We want the site to be as up-to-date and as fully accessible as possible for disabled people to use.
Disability Rights
We want to help you find out about your rights as a disabled person, and to learn more about the legislation that exists to help establish fully comprehensive and enforceable civil rights for disabled people in the UK.
This site is managed by the Disability Unit in the Department for Work and Pensions. You may have come here wanting to know about your present benefits claim, or to establish your likely entitlement to disability benefits. Please visit the main Department for Work and Pensions site for information on benefits.
You may also consult the "Benefit Enquiry Line for People with Disabilities." This is a confidential telephone advice and information service, for disabled people, their carers and representatives.
Phone Number: 0800 882200
Textphone service: 0800 243355
This service offers general advice and assistance which includes completing many disability-related benefit claim forms. They can also produce information in Braille or large print if requested.
The Disability Unit has tried to make www.disability.gov.uk fully accessible for disabled users. This site conforms to the guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the body which exists to promote the evolution and interoperability of the Worldwide Web. The site design has also been validated using the BOBBY accessibility tool, a web-based tool that analyses web pages for their accessibility for disabled people's use. If you need advice on how to make this site accessible for you, please visit the Help page first.
We want to hear your views about both the accessibility and content of this site. Please take the time to click on this link to the Feedback page and give your comments. They will help us to improve the site.
