From now until 5 December, the CRE
is inviting submissions as part of its Gypsy and Traveller scrutiny.
People who have information
on local authority planning policies and practices, site management,

a step-by-step guide |

As part of the statutory duty to promote
race equality, public authorities must assess all
new policies for their impact on race equality. This new online
guide, developed in partnership with the Home Office, is intended
to make this important component of the policy-making process as
straightforward as possible.

The UK’s influence on EU social
policy will be greatly strengthened when it takes over the EU presidency
for the second half of 2005. This paper outlines how the CRE intends
to further the race equality agenda within Europe and beyond, and
describes how it can learn from and share examples of good practice
from elsewhere in the international community.

Police service investigation
completes evidence gathering

The CRE is no longer seeking submissions
as part of its formal investigation of the police service in England
and Wales. The interim findings are now available on this website,
with the final report due be published in early 2005.
