Oil and Gas Industry Development Team Hosts Integrated Regions Event

1st
and 2nd July 2003 saw the bringing together of the DTI
interests in the supply chain serving the oil and gas sector with
those of 18 partners from regions across the U.K., where oil and gas
is a strong focus within their energy strategy. “The event, which
was held in Manchester is definitely only the first of a series,
provided a forum to enable cross-regional awareness of key issues
and exchange of ideas”, says Celia Mackie of OGID.

OGID
organise new Minister's tour of Offshore Europe 2003

DTI's
Oil and Gas Industry Development directorate (OGID) were very
heavily involved in preparations for the Minister for Energy,
E-commerce and Postal Services, Stephen Timms (second from left) on
his first visit to the world's second biggest oil and gas exhibition
held in Aberdeen between the 2nd and 5th of September 2003.
The
Minister's programme for the exhibition was a very hectic one before
leaving Aberdeen on Wednesday the 3rd, and required a lot of
organisation by the OGID staff, which was gratefully received and
commended by the Minister and his staff.

Historic
agreement paves the way for UK Norway Treaty
The
UK has signed an historic agreement with Norway that paves the way
for a new Treaty allowing closer co-operation between the two
countries to maximise recovery of oil and gas reserves, and
facilitate Norwegian gas imports to the UK.
UK Energy Minister, Stephen Timms, met with his Norwegian
counterpart, Einar Steensnaes in Oslo on 2 October to agree the
principles that will be incorporated in the new Framework Treaty due
to be signed next year.
The Treaty emerged as a key recommendation in the report published
in August 2002 by the UK Norway North Sea Co-operation Workgroup,
the cross-border government-industry body involving representatives
of PILOT and its Norwegian equivalent, KON-KRAFT. The report, "Unlocking
Value through Closer Relationships",
identified a total of 62 potential oil and gas field developments in
a trans-boundary corridor some 120 km wide, and a further 82
discoveries not currently commercial. The new Treaty should help to
unlock these opportunities, which if fully exploited, could deliver
several billion barrels of oil equivalent, bring an additional
benefit worth $2 billion to the UK and Norwegian economies and
generate jobs, tax revenues and energy supplies. For further
