The Automotive Innovation and Growth Team brought together major stakeholders from the automotive sector to identify the issues most likely to have the greatest impact on the long-term profitability and productivity of the sector.

The Team was headed by Sir Ian Gibson, former Chief Executive of Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) and its findings were published on 16 May 2002.  The Team made seven recommendations, which were welcomed by the Prime Minister.  The Department for Trade and Industry committed £45 million towards implementation of the recommendations.

Four out of the seven recommendations have now been implemented and the BERR is making progress with the other three.
