DTI's Innovation Group is responsible for policy on innovation, sustainable development, product standards, environmental protection, resource productivity and corporate social responsibility. Bringing these responsibilities together will help ensure policy on innovation, environment and sustainable development are mutually reinforcing.

Within the Innovation Group, Sustainable Development Directorate works to:

• Integrate sustainable development into DTI's policies and operational activities
• Secure a flexible, outcome based approach to developing and implementing UK, European and wider international environmental objectives and regulations
• Encourage the development and business take-up of sustainable technologies and environmental best practice

Environmental Technologies	Leads for DTI on  issues associated with environmental technologies
Environmental Regulation	Leads for DTI on policy associated with air and water pollution; ozone depleting substances; fluorinated gases; environmental liability and environmental enforcement
Recycling Policy	Leads for Government on all aspects of recycling policy, including EU Directives on Packaging, Batteries, WEEE and ROHS. Leads for DTI on WRAP.
Sustainable Development and CSR Policy	Leads for DTI on Sustainable Development at national and international levels. Environmental policy development and resource productivity. SD and environmental integration into DTI. HMG lead on technology issues in international SD negotiations. Corporate Social Responsibility leads for DTI on encouraging national and international organisations to take account of their economic, social and environmental impacts.
Sustainable Technologies	Responsible for supporting the development and take-up by business of new more sustainable technologies.
Waste Management & Vehicle Recycling	Leads for Government on vehicle and tyre recycling. Leads for DTI on waste policy and sponsorship of the waste industry.
Eco-Design & Product Policy	Leads for Government on the RoHS and Packaging Directives. Leads for DTI on Integrated Product Policy and the proposals for for an EuP Framework Directive.
