MLA was launched in April 2000, originally as Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, as the strategic body working with and for museums, archives and libraries, tapping the potential for collaboration between them.
The new organisation replaced the Museums and Galleries Commission (MGC) and the Library and Information Commission (LIC), and now includes archives within its portfolio.
Museums & Galleries Commission
Some of the factsheets
which were produced by our predecessor body, the Museums
& Galleries Commission, and which appeared on its
website are still
available online here.
Many of the former MGC factsheets have now
been updated and are available in MLA's Advice
and Guidance section.
For a list of publications which are still available
in print, see the MGC
Library & Information Commission
The Library & Information Commission produced a wide range of material, including responses, policy reports and
particularly a series of research reports known as the LIC Series. The LIC Publications and Reports are still available online via the MLA website.
Reports published after 31 March 2000 (including some which
are part of the LIC series) are available on the research
pages of the MLA website.
