education & social policy

DCMS recognises that to achieve its aim of culture for all, issues of education and social inclusion need to be mainstreamed in all that it does, and that it needs to work closely with other Government Departments in helping to achieve shared Government objectives.

Strategy, Policy and Delivery Division is a cross-cutting team in DCMS which works to mainstream appropriate consideration of these issues throughout the work of the Department and its sectors. The division also helps co-ordinate and develop policy across a range of cross-Government agendas, including

  • social inclusion
  • neighbourhood renewal
  • community cohesion
  • sustainable development
  • race and gender equality
  • children at risk
  • basic skills and lifelong learning.

The division is also responsible for the Department's involvement in children's play policy.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has published additional annexes to the play review report: 'Getting Serious About Play - A Review of Children's Play'. [7 June 2004]

An exciting new arts project has been announced by Arts Minister Estelle Morris. It will give people with mental health issues a chance to express their responses to the Arts and give an insight to all of us about a variety of mental states. [17 May 2004]
