As well as maintaining bilateral relations with individual countries, as outlined in the FCO's series of country briefs, the UK's foreign policy is pursued through its membership of international organisations and groupings such as the EU, the UN, and NATO. You can find out more about the UK's multilateral representation in the International Organisations area.

The UK's commitments to ensuring quality of life for all, a strong international community, the UK's prosperity and security, and international stability, are reflected in the FCO's work to protect the environment; ensure a sustainable global economy; promote human rights civil liberties and democracy; ensure international security and to combat the illegal drugs trade and other aspects of international crime.
