FOREIGN OFFICE REVISES TRAVEL ADVICE FOR KENYA

The Foreign Office revised its Travel Advice for Kenya on 26 June to remove the warning against non-essential travel issued on 15 May 2003. While no longer advising against non-essential travel, the new Travel Advice makes clear that there is a high threat from terrorism in Kenya and that British nationals should remain vigilant at all times.

CHINA: FOREIGN OFFICE LIFTS ADVICE AGAINST TRAVEL TO BEIJING

The Foreign Office has revised its Travel Advice for Beijing, China, on 24 June, on the basis of new advice and information on SARS from the Chief Medical Officer and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Beijing was the last remaining destination to which the Foreign Office was advising British Nationals to defer travel on account of SARS.

FCO ISSUES NEW GUIDELINES ON MINIMISING THE RISK OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OVERSEAS

The Foreign Office launched a new information leaflet today that gives personal safety advice to British travellers on ways to minimise the risk of rape and sexual assault overseas. The leaflet also provides advice and guidance for victims of rape and sexual assault overseas. FCO Minister Baroness Symons said 'We want to help minimise the risk of attack by giving British travellers clear advice on the steps they can take to increase their personal safety'.

FIRST INTERNATIONAL WORKING FORUM ON FORCED MARRIAGE

The first international forum on forced marriage is being held at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office today. The forum will discuss new ways of helping victims of forced marriage through closer co-operation. Speaking about the meeting Baroness Symons, FCO Minister with responsibility for Consular Affairs, said: 'This forum is an exciting first step towards building international networks to tackle forced marriage. This demonstrates that there is increasing international recognition that forced marriage is an international human rights abuse that must be taken seriously. By working in partnership with other countries we can promote and ensure the right to choose.'

SARS: FCO LIFTS ITS ADVICE AGAINST TRAVEL TO TAIWAN

The Foreign Office today revised its Travel Advice for Taiwan on the basis of new advice and information on SARS from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). The advice now reads: 'The Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health - on the basis of information from the World Health Organisation - lifted his advice that the British public should defer travel to Taiwan.'
