Travellers' Tips: Iceland

tick Check Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice before travelling.

tick Ensure you are in possession of E111 form to cover medical treatment and have adequate travel insurance, including medical cover.

tick Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.

tick Distances can be great, roads narrow and winding and speed limits low. Driving takes longer than you think.

cross Drink/drive laws are strictly enforced.

cross Do not get involved with drugs; the laws are strictly enforced.

tick Iceland is very expensive – be prepared to spend plenty of money, especially if intending to eat and drink in restaurants and bars. Credit cards are widely used.

tick Summer visitors intending to visit particularly lake and mountainous regions should bring plenty of insect repellent as mosquitoes and midges can be a problem.
