To celebrate the forthcoming enlargement of the EU, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will launch the UK's second New Europe Film Season, in association with a selection of Picturehouse cinemas around the UK. The season will celebrate the best of cinema from new Europe. International award-winners from countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Estonia and Romania, will highlight the vast technical and artistic abilities which have entertained millions of people around the world.

Denis MacShane, Minister for Europe, says: "The New Europe Film Season represents a unique opportunity for British audiences to discover and appreciate the rich talents of film-makers from central Europe and the Mediterranean. Britain shares a great history with the EU accession countries. They have a proud cultural heritage and have made major contributions to our own cultural development."
