What is renewable energy and what are the main types?
Renewable energy is the name given to energy that will never run out. The main kinds of renewable energy are:
    The wind
    The sun
    Water
    Wood and crops
    Waste.

What is the main benefit of renewable energy?
The main benefit of renewable energy is environmental. By using renewables more, we can rely less on fossil fuels; when they are burnt to produce electricity, fossil fuels give off polluting gases. These gases include carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming, and sulphur and nitrogen oxides, which cause acid rain.

What are the main environmental impacts of renewable energy and how can they be reduced?
Sometimes using renewable energy can affect what a landscape looks like or lead to more traffic, for example. However, these problems can be minimised by carefully choosing where to site projects.

How much does renewable energy contribute to the UK's energy supply?
Renewable energy provides about 3% of the UK's energy, but this amount is growing. More companies are making renewables equipment and providing the skills we need to make renewable energy a reality. More people are exploring how they can use renewables at home.

How much might renewable energy contribute to world energy supplies in the future?
Renewable energy now meets almost 20% of the world's electricity needs. This could rise to 25-45% by the year 2020.

Are wind turbines noisy?
No. It is possible to stand underneath a turbine and hold a conservation without having to raise your voice. If it is very windy, the noise from the wind masks the noise made by the turbines.

This chart shows noise levels from a wind farm compared with other common noise levels.

Are renewables expensive?
Historically, energy produced by renewables has generally been more expensive than that produced by "conventional" energy sources (such as fossil fuels). However, renewables are becoming more competitive all the time and in some cases can actually be cheaper than the alternatives.

What renewables could I use at home or school ?
It depends on what energy sources are available and what you need the energy for! You could make it a school project to look into this!
