Charities back council tax rally Help the Aged and the Royal British Legion are backing a pensioners' demonstration against council tax in London later this month. The charities are backing the Isitfair campaign, which has called a rally in Trafalgar Square for Saturday 17 January. Charities welcome pensions report Help the Aged and the Third Age Employment Network (TAEN) have welcomed the findings of a new report on pensions and retirement. The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee says that the State Pension system is too complicated and accuses the Government of taking too little notice of the public's concern about its future. Report claims choice will be denied to older patients Chronically sick and older people may not be able to choose where they are treated when new community care regulations come into force this month, warn researchers writing in the British Medical Journal.

The 19th Leeds Abbey Dash had some added glamour this year with the presence of Nell McAndrew and Charlotte Bellamy (aka Laurel Potts from Emmerdale), who not only started the race but ran alongside the record numbers of runners completing the 10k course. |
