Pictures of energy use

Welcome to the renewables section of the DTI's Energy Group Website.

This site has been re-designed recently.  We hope you find it helpful and easier to use.  Your comments and suggestions are very welcome - please email them to yetunde.afolabi@dti.gsi.gov.uk

Renewable energy comes from continuously available sources which do not rely on exhaustible fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. The main sources of renewable energy in the UK are wind (both on and offshore), the sun (solar photovoltaics), water (conventional hydro, and the developing technologies of tidal stream and wave) and biomass (including energy crops).

We have included information about Government policy and the Renewables Obligation, the work of the Renewables Advisory Board(RAB), the services offered by Renewables UK, the different technologies and resources with the technology route maps, our financial support programmes and background and links on international activities and programmes.  Press releases and renewables’ events are listed under ‘News’ and there is a comprehensive publications database.

Information on cleaner fossil fuels technology is available in the coal part of the Energy website.
