7th World Conference
on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, Austrian
Convention Center, Vienna, Austria
June 6-9, 2004.
Target participants:
This Conference is intended for professionals and
organisations involved in all aspects of the prevention,
control and research related to violence, suicide,
unintentional injury and safety, security.
Conference objectives:
1. Strengthen injury prevention in national and
international public health policies and programs;
2. Highlight the following international injury prevention
activities: the 2004 World Health Day on Traffic Injuries,
the Global Report on Violence, the recent advances in
Child Safety
3. Increase collaboration between professionals working in
unintentional and intentional injury;
4. Facilitate the participation of experts from low-income
countries through scholarships.
Conference sessions:
The conference will include plenary sessions on topics of
concern to all professions and state-of-the-art
presentations focusing on their respective fields.
Additionally, parallel sessions which will be organised
around conference themes, including Trauma Management,
Suicide Prevention, Violence Prevention, Home &
Leisure Time Safety, and many more.
Participants will also
have opportunities for direct involvement by giving oral
presentations, poster displays, video submissions,
satellite meetings and exhibits.

CAPIC
Award Scheme 2003-2004
Are
you involved in promoting the safety of your local
community in Wales?
Would you like to be rewarded for your efforts?
Would you like to share you project with others?
Then why not enter the CAPIC Award Scheme
Aims
of the Award
The
CAPIC Awards aim to recognise and reward good practice and
encourage the sharing of knowledge and ideas across Wales.
The Scheme will publicise and raise awareness of the
contributions of those involved in the reduction of injury
in the population of Wales.
Entering
the award
The
award scheme covers all age groups and invites submissions
from all areas of accident prevention, except road safety.
The Road Safety Council Wales (RoSCoW) already runs an
award scheme for road safety initiatives and details of
these can be obtained from Steve Baker, tel: 029 2025
0600.
Entries
no later than Friday 5 December 2003. The winners will
receive a prize of £200. The competition is open
only to organisations based or working in Wales.

Post-Graduate
Course on Injury Prevention. Details of the 2003/4 post-graduate level short course on
injury prevention are now available on the Child Accident
Prevention Trust website at www.capt.org.uk/course/main.htm
There are two residential sessions in late September 2003
and February 2004. The course stimulates a deeper interest
in unintentional injury prevention and develops the
knowledge and skills required in research, programme
implementation, evaluation and policy and strategic
development. It provides an up-to-date theoretical
framework and the opportunity to develop skills within a
variety of case studies, workshops, seminars and lectures
using the resources of a university setting. The course is
targeted at people involved in injury prevention action,
co-ordination, management and research in any agency. It
is relevant to those working or training in public health,
health promotion, road or home safety, Sure Start schemes,
injury prevention research, environmental health and other
areas of injury and accident prevention.
