European
Research
The
proposals under the EU's Fifth framework Programme on
Research provided significant opportunities for partnership
funding for Construction related research. The Sixth
Framework Programme (2002-2006) will show a greater
emphasis on the concept of a European Research Area
with European research closer aligned to national programmes.
There will also be a narrowing of the programme to concentrate
on key sectors where Europe needs to compete on the
world stage.
A
contract has been let to the National Physical Laboratory
(NPL) to set up an enquiry and advisory service to support
to UK construction organisations bidding for R&I funding
opportunities offered by the EU. Details of service
that can be provided are available from the NPL (020
8943 6660), or through NPLs construction website: www.npl.co.uk/npl/fp5/constructionoverview.html
International
Innovation
In
order to help improve DTIs knowledge of the international
construction scene, a series of short reports on key
topics of interest have been commissioned. These reports
will be written strategicly relating them to the UK
context.
We
envisage that these reports will highlight recently
completed or ongoing international research that would
seem to have the potential for high impact in the UK.
As the commission progresses a series of reports or
abstracts, will be made available through this page.
