DTI SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

A strategy for simultaneously securing economic growth and environmental protection

This Strategy and accompanying Action Plan set out DTI's priorities in contributing to the delivery of the Government's sustainable development strategy and objectives.

We are committed to creating an innovative, highly competitive and resource efficient economy that delivers continually improving quality of life and prosperity, and high levels of environmental and health protection for everyone.

We believe this can best be achieved in a modern, knowledge driven economy - based on high skill levels and resource productivity - in which innovation and enterprise are harnessed to develop commercially viable, internationally competitive solutions to environmental problems.

We are committed to working more effectively with business and our other stakeholders to deliver these goals, and create the environmentally and socially sustainable industries of the future.

Foreword by Secretary of State for Trade and Industry
Rt Hon Stephen Byers MP

Mr Byers' speech to the Greenpeace Business Conference - 5 October 2000
