What are
Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators?
The
Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are national data
sets against which a project or a company can benchmark its performance.

Key Performance Indicator Pack 2003 |
|
The
fifth set of headline Construction Industry KPIs relating to
perfomrance in 2002, was launched on 3 June 2003. The CI KPI
Pack contains a wall chart showing the range of performance
currently being achieved across the construction industry for the 10
headline economic KPIs, a handbook describing how they can be used
and a metgods of measurement booklet. A free KPI wallchart is
available from Construction Best Practice on 0845 605 55 56. |

The
CI KPI pack also contains the industry progress report, a booklet of additional
performance indicators (which includes the analysis
of the headline KPIs against the five major areas of work in the
construction industry) and Sector KPI wall charts for Construction
Consultants, Mechanical & Electrical Contractors and the Construction
Products Industry. |

Also
included is the Respect for People KPI wallchart showing
the range of performance for the 10 headline social KPIs and a handbook
showing how they can be used. Also, for the first time the Enviroment KPI
wallchart, showing the range of performance for the 10 headline KPIs
and a handbook showing how they can be used. |

Respect for People Headline Key Performance Indicators
2003 |

The
second set of headline KPIs for Respect for People were launched on
3 June 2003. The RfP KPIs, which are published annually contain a wall chart showing the
range of performance currently being achieved across the construction
industry for 10 headline social KPIs. The Respect for People handbook
describes how to use the KPIs and includes a range of Secondary Performance
Indicators (SPIs) which provide analysis of the headline KPIs. |

The
RfP KPI wallchart is available free of charge and is included, with the RfP
KPI handbook, in the CI KPI Pack and the Housing KPI Toolkit. The RfP KPI
handbook can be purchased separately. |

Revised KPIs were launched
on 3 June 2003 for M&E Contractors and Construction Consultants.
Together with the Construction Products Industry KPIs, they provide a
comprehensive system of performance measurement for key sectors of the
construction industry. |

The Construction Consultants KPIs are produced by a
joint working group of the Association of Consulting
Engineers, Royal Institute of British Architects, Royal Institution
of Chartered Surveyors and Institution of Civil Engineers.

consultants, and is supported by a handbook. For further

KPI report for the Minister for

This report produced by the KPI Working Group sets out a
comprehensive framework that construction enterprises can use to measure
their performance against the rest of the industry, and has been designed to
be used by organisations, large or small, specialist or supplier, designers
or constructors.
|
|
The KPI Working Group was made up from a broad spectrum of
members representing all sides of the Construction Industry and its
Clients.
|
|
The KPI Report was the culmination of the group’s work and
represents its collective views on the measurement of the industry’s
performance and is a direct response to Sir John Egan’s report Rethinking
Construction called for by the Minister for Construction. |
|
It builds on the ten headline KPIs introducing more
operational and diagnostic measures set in a benchmarking framework, which
can be used to analyse performance throughout the whole supply chain. The report is made available in
Adobe Acrobat format for downloading.

was

is
a new and unique method of assessing the quality of buildings and can be
used by anybody involved in the production of the built environment.
The
DQI
measures
the degree of excellence of a facility in relation to its build quality,
functionality and impact.

National Construction Benchmarking Forum
(NCBF) |
|
The NCBF meets 3 times a year and is the
forum at which all those with an interest in performance measurement and
benchmarking present their work and share their ideas. The aim of the NCBF is to
“maximise communication to avoid duplication” and to encourage
working together to share best practice and avoid the burden that
duplication may place upon the construction industry and its clients. |
