Seventeen findings of unlawful racial
discrimination are described in a new CRE report, Racial Equality
in Prisons.
It follows a three-year formal investigation into HM Prison Service,
which will now pursue an action plan agreed with the CRE to
deliver race equality throughout the service.
While one third of Scotland's public
bodies are leading the way with focused action on the duty to promote
race equality, just under a third have given weak 'off-the peg' responses,
says a new CRE report.

our Safe Communities Initiative as a way of promoting good community
relations.
The initiative aims to increase understanding
and sympathy between communities by bringing them together for a
common purpose.
Only 1% of senior managers
employed by the UK's top 100 companies are drawn from ethnic minorities,
according to figures published by the Runnymede Trust.

Trevor Phillips describes as ‘snowy peaks syndrome’.
Advancing race equality within the private
sector is one of the CRE's priorities over the next three years.
