Prison service guilty
of racial discrimination

Seventeen findings of unlawful racial discrimination are described in a new CRE report, Racial Equality in Prisons.
It follows a three-year formal investigation into HM Prison Service, which will now pursue an action plan agreed with the CRE to deliver race equality throughout the service.

Safe communities initiative

Earlier this year, we launched our Safe Communities Initiative as a way of promoting good community relations.
The initiative aims to increase understanding and sympathy between communities by bringing them together for a common purpose.

Tackling 'snowy peaks'

Only 1% of senior managers employed by the UK's top 100 companies are drawn from ethnic minorities, according to figures published by the Runnymede Trust.
On 9 December, business leaders met in London to debate what CRE chair Trevor Phillips describes as ‘snowy peaks syndrome’.

Working with business

Advancing race equality within the private sector is one of the CRE's priorities over the next three years.
This new section of the website describes how employers should address issues such as ethnic monitoring, recruitment and racial harassment, and answers some commonly asked questions.
