Objectives

  • The main objective of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Department is to promote a thriving rural economy, which is modern and broad based.

  • The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to developing income and employment in rural areas; helping farming to adapt; supporting those who have suffered as a result of Foot and Mouth Disease; and helping the land based economy.

  • A wide range of programmes and initiatives have been put in place to achieve this, including The Plan for Wales and the National Economic Development Strategy - A Winning Wales.

  • The Welsh Assembly Government is in consultation with a wide-range of groups & individuals from Wales, all of whom are committed to promoting and advancing the rural economy, including the Farming Futures Group.
