Draft Water Resources (EIA) (England And Wales) Regulations 2002 - Consultation document

Note: This consultation has now closed. A summary of responses, and an indication of what actions the Government intends to take following the consultation, will be published in due course. The following material has been left in place for reference/archive purposes.


This consultation paper seeks views on the content of the regulations which the Government proposes to make to implement the provisions of the amended EC Directive on environmental impact assessment (EIA) where those provisions apply to certain water resource projects. The draft regulations appended to the consultation paper incorporate the requirements for EIA into the abstraction and impoundment licensing system and, where licensing does not apply, introduces a new system of consents. When made the regulations will apply in England and Wales.

The consultation follows an earlier consultation by the then DETR in 1999 and sets out the reasons why the regulations were not made as then envisaged.
