Introduction
The consultation paper on "Distribution of the £140 Million Waste Minimisation and Recycling Fund" (Adobe Acrobat format, 150kb - see note below) invites comments on Government's proposals from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for the operation and distribution of a new £140 million waste minimisation and recycling fund in England.
Waste Strategy 2000 1 provides the waste management policy context for the Fund. This strategy set out the Government's vision for achieving sustainable waste management. It also put into effect the 'waste hierarchy' whereby minimising the amount of waste is seen as the top priority, and the re-use and recovery of value from materials are higher priorities than disposal.
