Consultation on New Draft Environmental Information Regulations on Public Access to Environmental InformationNote: This consultation has now closed. A summary
of the 120 responses to the consultation paper that were received
is now available Copies of individual responses are deposited in the Defra library, where anyone may inspect them. The Defra Library is at Room 320, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR (Tel: 020 7238 6575; Email defra.library@defra.gsi.gov.uk) and will supply copies of responses on request to personal callers or telephone enquirers. To avoid delays personal callers should give the library 24 hours' notice of their requirements. An administrative charge to cover the cost of photocopying and postage will apply. The following material has been left in place for reference/archive purposes. The new draft Regulations are a step towards full implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. They are also necessary to fulfil our commitments under the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters, and the forthcoming European Directive on Public Access to Environmental Information (to replace Directive 90/313/EEC).
