The European Union has published a Proposal for a Directive for the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings across the Community. It is wide-ranging in its scope. Those who might be interested in the Proposal will include the construction industry, boiler, heating and air-conditioning manufacturers, government estates and the public sector, housing associations, social landlords, energy efficiency organisations, other stakeholders and those whose buildings are used by the public.
A consultation on the proposal was launched on 9 August 2001 with interested parties are invited to read the letter issued by Defra, together with the European Commission's published document and send their comments for consideration to officials at Defra. The deadline for comments was 26 October 2001.
