[Travellers' Tips [Advice of other governments

The FCO's country-specific Travel Advice notices aim to ensure that British travellers are well prepared before their departure.  The FCO website also contains answers to common questions on Travel Advice in our FAQs section.

Select the country you are travelling to from the drop-down menu below. If a particular country is not included in the list of Travel Advice notices this is because the FCO has no information on the country at the present time.

The Travel Advice Unit advises against all travel to the following:

Afghanistan (except Kabul)
Albania (North East Border areas between Albania & Kosovo)
Algeria (to the desert and mountainous areas of the South East)
Azerbaijan (Nagorno-Karabakh and the militarily occupied area surrounding it)
Chad (the Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti provinces in the North, and in border areas with Sudan and Central African Republic)
Colombia (all Provinces of Choco, Putumayo, Meta and Caqueta and to rural areas of Antioquia, Cauca, Narino and Norte de Santander Provinces only)
Congo (Democratic Republic) (Outside Kinshasa, the eastern half of the DRC and the north-eastern District of Ituri)
Eritrea (border areas with Ethiopia and Sudan, South of the Barentu-Dekemaharare line)
Ethiopia (within 20Km of border with Eritrea in the Tigray & Afar regions, West of Gambella on the Itang Jikawo Road. The border with Somalia.
Guinea (border region with Liberia, Sierra Leone and Côte d'Ivoire only)
India (Jammu & Kashmir except Ladakh via Manali or by air to Leh. Immediate vicinity of the border with Pakistan & the Line of Control except Amritsar & Jaisalmer.)
Israel and the Occupied Territories (West Bank and Gaza; along Israel's border with Lebanon; close to the Israeli side of the Israel/Gaza border)
Ivory Coast (Northern part of Ivory Coast, i.e. anywhere north of Yamoussoukro, or the west of the country, i.e. anywhere west of Daloa)
Kyrgyzstan (South & west of Osh and the Ferghana Valley Region only)
Nigeria (Bakassi Peninsula on the border with Cameroon)
Philippines (Central, southern and western Mindanao to Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and the Sulu archipelago)
Russian Federation (Chechenya, Ingushetia, Dagestan & North Ossetia, Karachai-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, including Elbrus area, & to Eastern and Southern parts of Stavropol Krai. Particularly where it borders Chechenya & North Ossetia)
Sierra Leone (areas bordering Liberia)
Somalia (Southern Somalia, the north-eastern area (Puntland and the Sool and Sanaag regions of Somaliland)
Sri Lanka (north & east only unless as with an international agency or NGO)
Sudan (Eritrean border/ Kassala area)
Uganda (Not entire Country. Please see country advice for specific areas)

Unless on essential business, the Travel Advice Unit advises against travel to:
Central African Republic
Ivory Coast
Saudi Arabia

Afghanistan (Kabul only)
Congo (Brazzaville and Pointe Noire only)
Ethiopia (East of the Harar to Gode line)
Moldova (Transnistria (north-east Moldova) only
Nigeria (Warri in Delta State and the Bakassi Peninsula)
Papua New Guinea Southern Highland Province and Enga Province
Philippines (Mindanao)
Rwanda (rural areas in Cyangugu Province bordering Burundi (Gishoma, Dugarama, Kibangiro, Bugumya, Gasumo & Bweyeye)only)
Serbia and Montenegro (Kosovo only)
Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal and Malaita)
Sudan (southern Sudan, except for those engaged in relief work)
Tajikistan (specifically the Karategin (Rasht) valley, Kofarnihon and Tavildara areas (all in Central Tajikistan), mountainous areas bordering Kyrgyzstan & Uzbekistan & districts bordering Afghanistan.
Uganda (Nebbi District only)

Know Before You Go
The FCO strongly recommends that all travellers abroad take out comprehensive insurance.
