A key task of FCO missions overseas is to create awareness about the UK and promote a modern image of the UK abroad. This is clearly demonstrated by many of the new Foreign Office buildings abroad which are fine examples of UK expertise in architecture, design and innovation.
The open day at the Embassy in Berlin gave thousands of Berliners the opportunity to see a modern, open and exciting side of the UK, while the new Embassy building in Moscow projects an up-to-date image of Britain today to the Russian people.
An innovative approach to providing accommodation for staff overseas in a short period of time has recently been put into practice in Iraq. The new Baghdad Office was initially housed in five containers while a new 'flat-pack embassy' was constructed. Read about the British Office, Baghdad.
