Over half of all interaction between the government and the public is now carried out online. For example, the Hutton Inquiry website has been hugely popular, documenting every stage of the proceedings and making them available online. But how much of this historic online information is being preserved for future generations?
The National Archives has launched a new UK Central Government
Web Archive on the 24th September 2003. It will preserve 50 government
websites and will be the first of its kind. Sites chosen for preservation
include the Hutton Inquiry, 10 Downing Street and the Northern Ireland
Office. The web archive is accessible at www.pro.gov.uk/webarchive
and is available free.
