'BUILDING PEACE, SECURITY AND PROSPERITY IN COLOMBIA' (30/07/03)
Following his visit to Colombia in May, FCO Minister, Bill Rammell gave a speech on 30 July outlining some of the challenges and opportunities the country currently faces. He also set out the role that the UK is playing in working with Colombia, and internationally, to help resolve the conflict. His central message was 'it is not just governments that have an important part to play in the reform process in Colombia. Civil society, including business, should also be part of the process of helping to build a safe and secure Colombia.' He concluded: 'The peace and security of Colombia is in all our interests ... I want to encourage all of us who want to see a stable and peaceful Colombia, work together with Colombia to help achieve this goal.'
