Public Appointments

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is responsible for 10 non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs). A number of appropriately qualified and experienced members of the public are appointed to each of these bodies. These appointments are known as public appointments. In making these appointments the FCO wants to draw on the best of Britain's diverse society and like all government departments we have an action plan to increase the representation of the groups who are currently under-represented. We are committed to:
  • the equal representation of women and men in public appointments, and a pro rata representation of members of minority ethnic groups;
  • appointment on merit, using fair selection procedures, which recognise non-traditional career patterns are suitable qualifications for appointment.
Appointments made by FCO Ministers follow the guidance laid down by the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Dame Rennie Fritchie. Those responsible for making the other appointments are encouraged to follow this guidance.

The FCO keeps details of those wishing to be considered for appointments to its non-departmental public bodies on a departmental database. The database is trawled for all ministerial appointments. NDPBs who make their own public appointments will be sent copies of completed nomination forms.

Alternatively, individuals may wish to contact these NDPBs directly. The FCO NDPBs which have no ministerial appointments are the British-Russia Centre, the British Association for Central and Eastern Europe, the British Council and the Great Britain-China Centre.

If you would like your details to be added to the FCO database please contact Theresa Gecim for a nomination form at the address below: Personnel Command - Personnel Policy,

Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
Old Admiralty Building,
London

Tel: 020 7008 0804
Fax: 020 7008 0815

When completing this form it will be particularly helpful if you would specify which of the NDPBs you are interested in being considered for.
