Supporting British exporters and investors, and attracting investment into the United Kingdom, is now the task of British Trade International - a joint operation involving the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Department of Trade and Industry.

BRITISH TRADE INTERNATIONAL has lead responsibility within government for trade development and promotion on behalf of British business. Visit the website to see its national strategy for international trade development and promotion. It has two operational arms, Trade Partners UK and the Invest UK.

TRADE PARTNERS UK unites Government-sponsored support for British exporters and investors. The services are provided by a network of more than 200 organisations in government and business. The network includes help in more than 200 countries worldwide. Access to the help available is via the online export service gateway.

INVEST UK is the only investment agency covering the whole of the UK. It helps the world's companies to set up or expand business from a British base fast and smoothly.

TRADE UK: Trade Partners UK's on-line service for international buyers and UK exporters. The TradeUK website offers a directory of UK suppliers of products and services, plus an Export Sales Leads Service.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: Britain has a long history of excellence in scientific research and development. Dedicated sections in several British missions overseas have been established to promote and assist international scientific collaboration with Britain which is ever more important today.

DEPARTMENT OF TRADE & INDUSTRY is the UK Government department with the overall aim 'to increase competitiveness and scientific excellence in order to generate higher levels of sustainable growth and productivity in a modern economy.' The DTI's websites offer a range of information for consumers, small businesses, employees, and anyone with an interest in the world of work.

DTI's EXPORT CONTROL ORGANISATION website offers essential and up-to-date information about export controls, via a number of official regulatory documents which are freely available to all visitors. The FCO, DTI and MoD published the Government's fourth Annual Report on Strategic Export Controls in July 2000. The report covers licensing decisions and exports during the whole of 1999.

DTI IN EUROPE: This website highlights the Department for Trade & Industry's work in relation to EU issues. It provides a range of information on, for example, using the euro, competition policy, exporting, working in the rest of Europe, SME aid programmes and state aids. The site demonstrates the Government's commitment to a constructive engagement in Europe and to helping UK businesses and consumers seize the opportunities available there.
