STATEMENT BY MUSLIM PARLIAMENTARIANS
Following a meeting with the Prime Minister on 17 October, five MPs and peers of the Muslim faith today issued a statement in which they point out that whilst every effort was made to avoid it, military action in Afghanistan was inevitable. 'Usama bin Laden and his followers do not speak for Muslims here or abroad,' they insist. 'Their message of hate and destruction offends every principle we hold so dear and the chilling statement issued recently warning Muslims to keep away from aeroplanes and tall buildings is a sure sign of their culpability and their evil intent.' They continue: 'Our stand against the evil of terrorism has been backed by the whole of the civilised world – including political and spiritual leaders of Arab and Islamic nations'.
