Scheme news

August 2003

Are you linking English and mathematics to the schemes? If you are making links between your literacy and numeracy plans and scheme of work units, please tell us more.

Have you seen the new examples of pupil work linked to units? Explore the adapting units section of this website for links to National curriculum in action

We'd like to add more examples of how schools are customising units to meet their needs. If you've successfully adapted a unit for your school, or combined two units from different subjects, please contact us.

April 2003

An updated ICT Teacher's guide for key stages 1 and 2 has been sent to all primary schools in England. It includes a range of new integrated tasks for existing units, showing how key ideas, skills and techniques in ICT can be applied and developed in other subjects.

To help you make the most of the schemes, we have added examples of how primary school teachers are customising them. You will find examples of how teachers have adapted units in different subjects to reflect their particular circumstances and to better meet pupils' needs and abilities.

Also, we will be adding examples of how teachers have combined units to make powerful links between pupils' learning in different subjects. If your school is linking units from different subjects, please email us with information or examples.

March 2003

As regular visitors will have noticed, we have given the site a new look. As well as updating the design, we have reorganised the content and improved the way you move around the units and supporting information.

We have added three new sections:

  • planning using the schemes of work
  • examples of how primary teachers have adapted units to better meet their pupils' needs or to make best use of resources
  • information about combining units that reflects how primary teachers are making the most of powerful links between pupils' learning in different subjects.

If you would like to comment on the redesign, please email us.
