New guidance on diabetic foot care

  • Last modified date:
    17 May 2006

The Diabetic Foot Guide is now available from the NHS National Diabetes Support Team.

The publication covers all the key areas that are necessary to develop an effective diabetic foot care service, by following the standards set out in the Diabetes National Service Framework (NSF). These are:

* prevention and screening

* care pathways

* multidisciplinary working

* workforce design and staff skills

The guide features examples and case studies, showing how diabetes teams across England are tackling diabetic foot problems.

Diabetes is one of the world's leading causes of lower limb amputation. It is estimated that professional foot care for diabetics could prevent around half of these cases from happening.
