Background about demonstrator projects 2001-2002

  • Last modified date:

As part of the Information for Social Care implementation programme, local councils with social services responsibilities (CSSRs) were invited, through local authority circular LAC(2001)9, to submit proposals for projects that could form part of an implementation demonstrator programme.

These projects were funded using part for the capital grant secured through the Spending Review for improving information management in social services. A total of 55 project proposals were received. Following a process of evaluation of the proposals, six projects were selected for funding.

Projects were expected to demonstrate inter-agency working, a person-centred focus, progress towards meeting the Modernisation agendas through application of systems and technology, links with implementation of the National Services Frameworks and better use of information by managers and staff.

The portfolio of projects covered the following key areas, no one project was expected to cover all the areas:

  • Electronic records
  • Interface with partner agencies
  • Service delivery
  • Access to information by the public
  • Management tools
  • Security and confidentiality
