The work of the Equality and Human Rights Group (EHRG)

  • Last modified date:
    9 August 2007

EHRG works across the six equality strands – race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and gender identity, and religion and belief – and human rights.

The group aims to work in a respectful and inclusive manner with partners and stakeholders.

Its role is to:

• give strategic leadership on equality and human rights
• champion equality and human rights within DH
• challenge discrimination across DH, the NHS and Social Care
• support DH policy colleagues and advise on proposed legislation
• identify the ‘business case’ for E&HR and provide examples of good practice to back it up
• enable delivery of the equality and human rights agenda across the NHS and Social Care through innovative change programmes that test a variety of approaches
• develop partnerships with stakeholders, regulators, patient and staff groups and other colleagues across DH, the NHS and Social Care to facilitate delivery of the above.
