Tables of Data on fetal abnormalities for 2003

  • Last modified date:

On 21st February 2005, the Pro Life Alliance requested, though a Freedom of Information request, that the Department of Health publish data on fetal abnormalities for 2003 that had been suppressed. The Department declined to do so citing Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act. This case has now been considered by the Information Commissioner, an Information Tribunal and the High Court. On 7th June 2011 the High Court ordered DH to release the data in question by 4th July. The Department has decided not to seek any further appeals and comply with the judgment. In addition, fetal abnormality data and data for abortions performed on girls aged under 14 for subsequent years to 2010 has also been released.
